Korean barbecue restaurant in Aldgate East, London. The meaning of ‘Bari Bari’ is very much related to distinctive culture of Korea ‘Jung’, which is this particular feeling of affection for and caring about someone. We tried to incorporate such meaning and culture into our design. Therefore, the challenge was to create a clean and warm space that reflects both London and Korea. In order to achieve this, the design was planed down and simple that the focus is on food and the palette of materials to give life and warmth do the space. The use of polished concrete floor was harmonised with surrounding emerging architecture that is visually connected with dining space. Grey terrazzo tiled reception bar was an element in bridging Korea and London with its colour representing the roof of Korean traditional architecture as well as surrounding East London area. Oak panels were cut to traditional Korean pattern in contributing not only warmth to the space but also brief experience of Korea.
